Health:
• Soft Launch of Virtual Hospital Pakistan (VHP) on 26th March 2012:

On 26th March 2012, Kawish welfare Trust was able to break a ground in joint venture with Virtual Hospital UK and finally launched a pilot project of Virtual Hospital Pakistan to connect Medical Consultants ( at UK /Lahore) with the poor patients in rural areas at no charges. The soft launch has connected Hub at Gulab Devi Chest Hospital, Lahore with E-Clinic at South Punjab equipped with electronic Medical Diagnostic Unit, 300 km from Hub. By using this facility, Specialists will be able to examine the patients, their medical history, test results and vital signs; heartbeat, pulse rate, blood pressure, temperature, respiration through electronic medical facilities available at both Hub & E- Clinic.
Our efforts would continue for the formal launch which will include the establishment of connectivity between Super Hub (U.K.), Hub (at Gulab Devi) and E-Clinics at far flung rural areas. We target the month of September 2012 for the same.
As an inherent part, we will expand by adding more E-Clinics in future also providing medicines / surgery support inshallah. Last but not the least, the process for getting VHP ISO 9000 certified is also going on and we are striving to meet the highest standards of quality in servicing the poor.

Education:
• Iqra Schools:

In February 2012, 486 students (269 boys & 216 girls) of 24 Iqra Schools appeared in Annual Primary Examination. The passed percentage of the students was 94% with marks percentage of 52%. Spade work for the opening of some more Iqra schools is in progress and the number of schools will inshallah touch 100 by 15th May, 2012. A comparison chart below portrays the untiring efforts of the teachers, poor students despite challenging conditions in comparison with privileged environment.

• Girls Middle Schools:

In February 2012, 76 girl students of Iqra Plus Schools appeared in Annual Middle Examination conducted by Government of Punjab securing 70% marks.

• Distribution of uniforms in Kawish Iqra Schools at Karachi:

During the last week of March 2012, the distribution of uniforms to all the 150 students of the four Kawish Iqra Schools currently running at Karachi was completed. The students were very happy and motivated to have received the new dresses. The distribution was carried out by some of our valued Donors who also spoke with the teachers and the students and appreciated the curriculum being taught and the performance of the students.

• New Iqra Schools inauguration at Islamabad:

By the grace of Allah, two new Iqra Primary Schools inaugurated on Mar 31st, 2012 at Bobri Islamabad. The ceremony was attended by the members of Islamabad Advisory Council. Mr. Raja Changaiz facilitated by providing the place for schools. These two schools are sponsored by Miss Maha Mumtaz and Mr. Humza Mumtaz. The enthusiasm by the students was immense as they participated in different skits and prayed for the donors for their support. Later, gifts were distributed among the kids as a gesture of encouragement. The children and other participants enjoyed the activity.

• New Iqra School inauguration at Badin:

Alhamdolillah, by the dint of hard work of Kawish Sindh Team and local volunteer Mr. Musa, who is also now one of our supervisors, Kawish Sindh has now officially launched a new Iqra School in the flood impacted mosque of Badin at Khoski Road, Near Attock Petrol Pump. The under construction mosque was drowned in flood water as reported in our earlier update. For which Kawish team in Karachi assisted in clearing the water followed by the construction/ repairs and now working with the locals to get this school started with 40 kids.

• Orphans Relief Packs Distribution in Sindh continues:

The distribution of the Relief Packs in Sindh continues and this time these were distributed to around 100 orphans in 03 villages of Hala and Badin. The children had blissful moments on receipt of the packages.

• Eye Camp (24th- 25th February, 2012):

Monthly eye camp was held at Al-Raheem Hospital on March 24th- 25th , 2012. 150 OPD patients were treated & 45 Phaco surgeries were performed by the skilled doctors and other paramedical staff at subsidized rates of Rs. 1500 each. We covered around 100 villages for Cataract surgery & OPD. As usual, meals and accommodation facilities were provided to the patients at no cost.

Kawish Advisory Councils, Pakistan:

The Advisory Councils for Kawish Welfare Trust have been formed both at Karachi & Islamabad/ KPK. All valued members are highly qualified / successful professional and working as volunteers in Kawish.
Karachi & Sindh members ; Mr. Bashir Makki, Mr. Jalil Tarin, Mr. Naveed Sultan, Mr. Amir Hassan
Islamabad & KPK members ; Air Comdr (Retd.) Tanvir Ahmad, Dr. Mohsin Rehmatullah, Mr. Faisal Khan, Dr. Amir Qayyum, Mr. Ahmad Hassan, Engr. Atique- ur-Rahman,
Formation Purpose: This would help to replicate Kawish model in different regions with the joint consultation and support of advisory council members. Our local respective management shall learn a lot from their experiences for achieving long term goals of poverty alleviation through empowerment.
