1st ever Composite Health Camp by TABA (a consortium of 73 NGOs) at Khuddian, Kasur:

The 1st ever composite health camp of eleven organizations under the umbrella of TABA was held Village Khurram (3 kms off the Indian border), District Kasur on 14th April 2013. This was spearheaded by Dr. Izhar Hashmi of Akhuwat. The idea was to collaborate for providing services and developing future disaster management mechanisms on the ground during peacetime. The organizations which participated in this camp were:

The concept / word TABA (Ta`awanu Alal Birr Wattaqwa) has been derived from the Holy verse:

“And help each other in the deeds of good and righteousness”

Installation of hand pumps for providing fresh drinking water to the people of Sindh:

After a long gap due to law and order situation in Sindh, Kawish resumed its activities of installing water hand pumps. The areas in focus were again those villages in interior Sindh which were facing acute shortage of drinking fresh water. 25 more hand pumps were installed during this activity increasing the total number to 90 in the area of Badin & Thar.

Note: We have received 25 more requests by the desperate people in Sindh for providing drinking water hand pumps. The total expense of one hand pump is around Rs. 12000/-.

Kawish Iqra Schools:

i) Weekly journals / encyclopedia for 4000 students: Weekly encyclopedia from Association for Academic Quality (AFAQ), our partners, has been inducted in all Kawish Iqra Schools. http://www.afaq.edu.pk/index.php?func=page&page_id=64
ii) Arabic classes for Iqra Teachers by Director B.P.I University: Dr. Altaf Hussain Langrial (DIRECTOR Bahawalnagar Campus, B I University has been very kind to Kawish and has started teaching Arabic language to the teachers of Iqra schools. This has added value to our existing Iqra School System. Below are few pics of the class conducted by Dr. Altaf Hussain Sb.
iii) Expansion in Iqra Schools to 130 numbers in Total. Courtesy Sponsors from Bahawalpur / Middle East (induction of 600 kids): Our respected donors in Pakistan and Middle East have shown their interest in opening of Kawish Iqra Schools. This will increase the total number of Iqra schools to 130 by May end, 2013 insha Allah. We will share more details in our next update. The sponsor names include, Soofi Salman Hassan, Mr. Irfan Hashmi, Mr. Hameed Ahmad, Mr. Shahid Hameed, Dr. Usman Haider, Mr. Muneeb Wahad Khan, Mr. Anwar Ahmad, Hafiz Afzal Sb, Bukhari sb., Habib ullah Bhutta sb Bahawalpur, Brig. The proposed areas would be: Sargodha, Chakwal, Bahawlapur, Vehari.

Monthly Eye Camp::

Monthly eye camp was held from 27th - 28th April 2013. During this camp 97 patients got treatment in the OPD and 14 patients were operated using the latest Phacoemulsification procedure at very low rate of Rs. 1500/- (=US$ 15) per patient.

Earthquake in Mashkail, Quetta-Balochistan:

The earthquake measuring 7.8 on the richter scale that occurred in Mashkail Tehsil, population of 15000 people, of Washuk District, 600 km away from Quetta on April 16th, 2013 has left 90% of the people affected in one way or the other.
The help to the victims is being channelized through PIA for the Free logistics support.
Our respected donors are extending their help to the affected people of Balochistan in this hour of need. Rescue & Relief operations are going on in full swing under the Umbrella of TABA and visionary leadership of Dr. Asif M. Jah sb.

Registration of Volunteer Doctors for RTM (Rural Tele Medicine):

RTM (Rural Tele Medicine), after its launch, is now working smoothly. We request Doctors from all over the world to spare few minutes from their precious time and provide online consultation via Skype to the poor and deserving people on weekly, monthly, quarterly basis whatever is suitable while staying back at their homes.
